Flag Etiquette
-
Never let it touch the
ground.
-
If the flag is on a pole,
it is proper to raise it briskly and lower it reverently.
-
If you hang it from a
porch or window, make sure the stars are on the upper left to
whoever is observing it.
-
If a flag gets tattered,
it is acceptable to hem it back a bit. However, if the alteration
throws off the proportion of the flag or the color fades, it
is time to replace it.
Disposing of Old Glory.
For the past year we have all been flying Old Glory with pride.
As this venerable ensign fades and frays with age and use it is
right to dispose of this emblem of our freedom properly. The American
Legion is authorized by Congress to properly dispose of American
flags. For disposal of your flag contact: Bill Brown, Post Commander
(540) 687-5548, John Molière, Vice Commander (540) 454-0881 or
Frank Payne, Adjutant (540) 687-5175…or you could simply drop
your flag off at the main office of the Middleburg Bank on Washington
Street.
